The Free Port of Ventpils has participated in the survey „ Global Free Zones of the Future 2010/2011” organised by the popular British newspaper „Financial Times” publication fDi Magazine and constituting a comprehensive comparison and evaluation of free zones from the whole world.
On Tuesday, March 30th, at the "Bucher Schoerling Baltic" Ltd factory (at 105 Ganibu Str., Ventspils) there was signed a contract on implementation of the EU Structural Funds project for the "Bucher Schoerling Baltic" Ltd project “Bucher Schoerling Baltic" Ltd Engineering Factory Development Project for Manufacturing Higher Value Added Products” within the activity “High Added Value Investments”.
On Friday, March 26th, at the "BAU-HOW Baltic" Ltd factory (at 27 Rūpniecibas Str., Ventspils) there was signed a contract on implementation of the EU Structural Funds project for the "BAU-HOW Baltic" Ltd project “Industrial Manufacturing of Building Modules” within the activity “High Added Value Investments”.
The Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) was established in 2005 by 7 organisations – Ventspils Free Port Authority, Ventspils University College, „Industrialas Investicijas" Ltd. (Latvia), Latvian Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry Association, Association of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Companies in Latvia, „Siemens" Ltd (Latvian branch). and “Zernike Group Holding" B.V.(The Netherlands).
The objective of VHTP is to perform management of the territory and physical infrastructure being under the authority of the VHTP, as well as organize activities in order to promote development of the high technology sectors – information technologies, telecommunications, electronics, engineering, industrial automation, computer aided design and space technologies - in Ventspils city.
Ventspils High Technology Park has two branches - the Technology park and Business Incubator.
Technology Park is located in Ventspils, Kaiju Str.9 and provides premises and services for high-tech companies and organizations. the Technology Park has accommodated some of the leading Engineering, Electronics and IT companies (including Siemens, Inspecta Latvia, Ventspils Elektronikas fabrika), as well as Ventspils University College Research and Engineering Centre with its state-of-art CAD/CAM, Rapid Prototyping laboratories and Optical inspection, Flying Probe and X-Ray equipment for quality testing of electronic products.
At the beginning of 2006 Ventspils High Technology Park in collaboration with Ventspils University College established Business Incubator to support young entrepreneurs and spin-offs in high-tech industries. Particularly it is support for companies not older than 3 years and those who are planning to work in the field of information technologies, telecommunications, electronics, engineering, industrial automation, computer aided design and space technologies.
