In partnership with one of the leading port design experts – the Dutch company Witteveen+Bos – a study on adjusting the port of Ventspils to serve offshore wind farms has been finalized. The researchers have stated two central conclusions: the port of Ventspils can already offer sufficient services to the developers of offshore wind farms, and to make full use of its potential, it is crucial to construct an effective terminal near the Northern Pier in the port of Ventspils from the point of view of expenditures and usage.

The Freeport of Ventspils Authority has taken a new step in the wind energy sector by joining the Latvian Wind Energy Association. With 15 years of experience in the wind industry, the Latvian Wind Energy Association gathers more and more local and foreign companies and currently has 27 representatives from the relevant enterprises.

The environmental cleanup and further pollution prevention works in the environmental remediation project led by the Freeport of Ventspils Authority, which lasted three years and cost more than five million euros, have been completed. The most extensive environmental cleaning initiative in the region, which was co-funded by a Norwegian financial instrument, has yielded all of the anticipated outcomes.

The media members are invited to participate in the project’s press briefing devoted to the results of remediation activities of historically polluted area within the scope of one of the biggest environment-related projects in the region. The event will take place on April 11, at 12 PM in the remediation site.

In March 2024, the Freeport of Ventspils Authority has become a complete member of the largest European wind energy association, WindEurope. The organization unites more than 500 partners from 35 countries, supplying a worthwhile network of contacts throughout the wind energy project development chain.

This week, the Freeport of Ventspils Authority is participating in the WindEurope 2024 exhibition and conference in Bilbao, Spain. It is an annual European-wide event, and this year, industry experts from Latvia are also participating for the first time, including three representatives of the Freeport of Ventspils: Igors Udodovs, the Deputy CEO of the Freeport of Ventspils, Kristīne Jansone, the Development Project Manager, and Kaspars Liepiņš, the Developer of the Green Energy Cluster. This year, the Freeport of Ventspils is also a complete member of WindEurope.

On a morning cruise from Sweden, the three millionth passenger since the establishment of regular international passenger traffic arrived at the port of Ventspils. It was Dainis Bužs, the owner of a construction company. He currently lives in Riga but originally comes from Madona.

From March 3 to 8, the offices of the Department for Business and Trade of Britain in Latvia and Estonia held a meeting for representatives of the Latvian and Estonian wind industry to learn about industry news and promote reciprocal cooperation. Kaspars Liepiņš, the Developer of the Green Energy Cluster of the Freeport of Ventspils, went to Great Britain on an experience exchange mission to gain a deeper understanding of offshore green energy field development in Scotland and England.

Yesterday, on March 5, a meeting of businessmen from Flanders and Latvia was held on opportunities for closer cooperation. The session was held in Riga and opened by the Minister-President of Flanders, Jan Jambon.

Last week, at the BOWEH2 project seminar in Vilnius, Kaspars Liepiņš, the developer of the renewable energy cluster of the Ventspils Freeport Authority, presented the Ventspils Freeport's vision of the port as a green energy and hydrogen technology center.
