Ventspils shows the highest industrial output growth nationwide

Industrial companies operating in the industrial territory of the Freeport of Ventspils have manufactured products worth nearly 183 million euro in nine months, thus increasing output by 57% comparing with equal period last year.

According to the Central Statistical Bureau, during the first nine months this year, Ventspils has reached the highest industrial output growth nationwide – 57% in comparison with the first three quarters of 2017. The average industrial output growth in Latvia during the same period is 8%. In terms of the industrial development rate, Ventspils takes stable leading position among the cities of Latvia: Jēkabpils shows 16% growth, Jelgava – 13%, Rēzekne – 11%, Daugavpils – 7%, Liepāja and Riga – 3%, while Valmiera this year shows reduction of industrial output comparing to the last year.

Record volume of Ventspils industrial development period!

In current prices, the volume of production manufactured by all industrial companies of Ventspils is worth 183 million euro. This is a record volume of Ventspils industrial development period. Metal processing and mechanical engineering are the industries showing the fastest development. Summary turnover of all companies of this industry has reached 86 million euro in nine months. For comparison: turnover of the volume of production of mechanical engineering and metal processing manufactured in 2017 reached 75 million euro, in 2016 – 48 million euro.

This year, Ventspils has been recognised as the mechanical engineering centre in Latvia, while three companies operating in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils are among the fastest developing companies of the industry – Bucher MunicipalMalmar Sheet Metal and TC Steel.

New industrial buildings – for investors

In its effort to perform one of numerous functions – development of production in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils, the Freeport of Ventspils Authority has constructed nine industrial buildings in 12 years! Contract on construction of a block at Kustes dambis 30A has been recently concluded, but next year construction of three buildings will commence in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils. Two of these buildings will form addition to the Ventspils High Technology Park, but the third building is planned to be constructed at Ganību Street, next to the company Bucher Municipal. Contract on lease of the two planned buildings has been recently concluded.

20 production units in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils in 15 years!

Since the beginning of the 2000-ies, local government of Ventspils has commenced implementation of the industrialisation programme, whereas, development of industrial territories is one of the prior directions of activity of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority. During the period exceeding 15 years, 20 production units have been opened and approximately 1’700 new jobs have been created in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils in 15 years. Very different industrial branches are developing in Ventspils – wood processing, production of biodiesel, mechanical engineering, candle manufacture, electronic circuit-board and liquid crystal displays manufacture, polyurethane products and building construction modules manufacture, flexible packaging and hydraulic equipment manufacture, chocolate and wood pellet production, metal processing, large size fiberglass industrial equipment and heating system manufacture.
