In total, in January-November this year, Freeport of Ventspils handled 26 million tons, which is 14% more than over the same period last year. The volume of liquid cargo handled in seven months has reached 14 million tons, which is 7% more than a year ago. The aggregate volume of bulk cargo this year amounts to 10 million tons, which is 21% more than last year. The largest increase in cargo volume handled at Ventspils Freeport traditionally accounted for general cargo: in the first 11 months of this year it was almost 2,3 million tons, which is 27% more than last year.
Oil products accounted for the largest share of the cargo volume: in 11 months the total volume of oil products handled at the Port was more than 13 million tons, which is 10% more than last year. The second largest handled cargo volume was coal: almost 6 million tons, accounts for 75% more than a year ago. The third largest – mineral fertilizers with the total volume of almost 3 million tons, and this was 12% more than a year ago.
Ferry lines are further developing steadily at Freeport of Ventspils, as well. Ro-Ro cargo volume over a 11-month period increased by 46% on last year, amounting to 2 million tons.
In November 2011, Ventspils Port handled 2.4 million tons of cargo, which is 434 thousand tons or 23% more than the same month a year ago. The Port handled 1.2 million tons of liquid cargo, 928 thousand tons of bulk cargo and 198 thousand tons of general cargo in July.
