Construction of an innovative production unit begins - the first of its kind in Europe

29.06.2009

On May 12, 2009, at 30A Kustes dambis, Ventspils, construction of a facility which will produce a novel product – solid wood particle panels known as DENDROLIGHT, was started, this production facility being the first of its kind in Europe.

„The mobility of society and its demand in up-to-date design results in searching for innovative solutions in timber materials: light weight, optimum durability and utmost processing freedom are the requirements that modern timber materials should meet. For many years now, we have been looking for a homogeneous building material that would be both durable and light. The new product DENDROLIGHT is light, durable and ecological material – it presents innovation in production of furniture, building of houses, house trailers etc. Excellent technical qualities of this material provide for a wide range of application. This production unit will be the first of its kind in Europe, and thanks to the support and successful cooperation with the Free Port of Ventspils Authority, in this economic situation, we will be able to launch production as soon as in 2010,” says Jānis Vašuks, the chairman of the board of SIA „Dendrolight Latvija”.

Through investment of 7 million LVL, the Free Port of Ventspils Authority will build a production facility of 7000 m2 and a stack yard with engineering network of approx. 15000 m2. SIA „Dendrolight Latvija” in its turn will lease buildings and install a technological line worth ~10 million LVL in these buildings. The production process will make use of the most sophisticated technologies which will ensure high quality and productivity.

It is planned that the implementation of the project will result in creating at least 70 new jobs in Ventspils directly, but indirectly more work will be generated to large numbers of employees involved in preprocessing of wood and transportation, as well as for other inhabitants of Ventspils employed in service industry.

„One of the operational priorities of the Free Port of Ventspils Authority is industrialisation. The port and its activities, no doubt, is the foundation-stone of the development of the City of Ventspils. However, our reasoning must be based on long-term goals: the companies are optimising their activities, new technologies are developing rapidly, which increases efficiency and promotes competitiveness, but at the same time, this also means that manual work will be replaced by technologies and machinery.

This is why the Free Port of Ventspils Authority actively implements the industrialisation programme, performs and attracts new investments in order to establish companies of various, new to Ventspils, industries and create new jobs for the inhabitants of Ventspils. Over the last few years, the volume of private and public investment on the territory of Ventspils Free Port has reached 360 million LVL, and we are truly convinced that investing in the improvement of infrastructure and technologies must be continued. One of the priority tasks of the City Council and the Free Port of Ventspils Authority today is to further develop the infrastructure of the City and the Free Port territory so that it attracts further development of manufacturing and generates more jobs,” says Mr. Imants Sarmulis, Chief Executive Officer of the Free Port of Ventspils.

The land lease and building lease agreements between the Free Port of Ventspils Authority and SIA „Dendrolight Latvija” were concluded at the end of 2008.
