Infrastructure development at the Freeport of Ventspils

The overall project goal is to ensure complex long-term development of the Freeport of Ventspils, maintaining and expanding port cargo turnover. The project specifically aims to increase the competitiveness of the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils.

To achieve its objectives, the project is designed to::

  • increase the higher value cargo (general cargo) throughput (the construction of berth No 12 with cargo handling lot);
  • increase the safety of navigation in the internal port basin (North Pier renovation, the shipping canal embankment construction, renovation of berths 19-25A);
  • ensure access for ships with capacity BT=85000t to piers at estuary of Venta (deepening of the shipping channel up to 15m between the turning basin and the Venta bridge);
  • ensure the port authority vessel (oil recovery vessels, diving vessel, depth measuring vessel, etc.) standing safety at the required operating loads (reconstruction of Freeport Authority Navy Pier – The Old Fishing Port).

The project was implemented from 2010 until 2014, under the operational program Infrastructure and Services amendment 3.3.1.3. activity Development of Large Port Infrastructure within the Naval Routes. Total eligible costs are ~ 22.19 million EUR, of which Cohesion Fund (CF) co-financing is projected at ~ 13.97 million EUR.
