The buoys of the Port of Ventspils are becoming more up-to-date

At the end of the year, the project „Development of Transport and Port Communication Systems” (Trans-Port), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, is winding up. Within the framework of the project, a number of activities aimed at the improvement of the Port of Ventspils communication systems were carried out, and as a result, a part of navigation buoys in the Port of Ventspils and adjacent waters are being equipped with an automatic identification system (AIS).

Cargo turnover in November increased for 23%

In November 2011 cargo turnover in Freeport of Ventspils was 23%  more than during November last year. After 11 months of 2011 Freeport of Ventspils handled 26 million tons of cargo, which is  14% more than over the same period last year. 

Cargo turnover at the Port of Ventspils has increased by 6%

In the first seven months of 2011 Ventspils Port handled 16.613 million tons of cargo, which is  6% more than over the same period last year. In July the cargo turnover of the port amounted to 2.132 million tons.  

Norwegian company "BAU-HOW AS" is planning to build a production facility in Ventspils

On June 3, 2009, the management of Norwegian company „BAU-HOW AS” officially announced establishment of the company in Latvia.

After several years of conducting careful studies, and from 2007, in close cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, the company has selected Ventspils as the most suitable location for building production facilities where, by applying innovative technology developed and patented by the company, the company "BAU-HOW AS" will produce building modules for construction of houses. The whole production volume will be exported. The total investment of "BAU-HOW AS" is estimated at 65.5 million EUR.

 

 Mr Ulf Åberg, Chief Executive Officer of „BAU-HOW AS”, said: „“In choosing a location for „BAU-HOW Baltic” new production facility, we prioritized direct access to the port, combined with advantageous business environment, suitable territory that provides for building at least four production facilities, and availability of qualified workforce. These are the reasons why we chose Latvia and the city of Ventspils.”


The company’s strategic aims over the period between 2010 and 2013 is building in Ventspils 4 plants with the total production capacity of approx. 600 000 m2 of modules per year. The total production volume would secure establishment of manufacturing industry of at least 420 million LVL of high added value per year. In addition, a significant share of the financing would be channeled towards research and development not only in BAU-HOW, but also in other companies which would supply BAU-HOW with raw materials. It is planned that BAU-HOW plants in Latvia alone will employ around 800-1000 people.


Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia Mr Andris Ozols points out: „It is not only Ventspils that will benefit form a project like this, but the entire country. Considering the specificity of the project, BAU-HOW will need a wide spectrum of suppliers: manufacturers of metal structures, concrete, windows and doors, fittings and sanitation appliances, providers of transportation and logistics services. This will open up new business opportunities for entrepreneurs in Latvia”.


Mayor of Ventspils City Council Mr Aivars Lembergs said: „I am very pleased to see that it is in these difficult times for building industry in Latvia and economy at large that a new innovative construction industry company will start its operation in Ventspils, in its first phase of development providing 200 jobs for residents of the City of Ventspils. We are grateful to the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia for all the work they have put in implementing this investment project.”


SIA Bau–How Baltic is one of the daughter companies of BAU-HOW AS (Norway). The other companies of the Group and its representative offices will ensure marketing and sales activities, as well as protection of the patent rights for the product and further product development.
