This year Free port of Ventspils will start the study of interesting tourism region Gotland –Ventspils – Sarema   for ferry line sustainability. Study will be granted by the Interreg fund.
Despite the post-crisis period 2010 was successful year also in the sphere of industrial development. The company„BAU-HOW Baltic”, subsidiary of theNorwegiancompany"BAU-HOW", started to work in Ventspils. The company is making modules for apartment houses, creating 120 new workplaces. On September  „Dendrolight Latvija”Ltd. opened a new enterprise for  first-ever wooden material Dendrolight in Ventspils. At the end of September Free Port of Ventspils Authority signed the contract with factory of the Spanish-Italian origin of company "Sopena".
In the end of 2010 with  reconstruction of Venta bridge  the realization of the project „Reconstruction of access roads to terminals of Ventspils port” was finished. The realisation of another EU project "Access roads in territory of Ventspils free port for existing terminals and industrial zone” started last year, it means that till 2014 almost 20 million lats will be put in more than 30 objects - building and reconstruction.
The total cargo turnover in the terminals of Ventspils Port in 2010 was 24,8 million tons, that is 6,85 %   less than in 2009. The biggest decrease is in liquid cargoes - about 19 % that is one of the major negative influences on the total cargo turnover of port. In turn the increase, in comparison with last year is observed in the field of bulk cargoes (12 %) and general cargoes (37 %). Decrease in a turn of liquid cargoes, mainly is because of falling of turn in ”Ventspils Nafta"termināls" Ltd.

Strategy of Ventspils and Free port to diversify business environment in Ventspils have strengthened accent on industry development. In spite of the fact that since 2002 the number of workplaces in terminals decreases, the total number of workplaces in the operating enterprises of Free port has increased because of opening new ones.
