The buoys of the Port of Ventspils are becoming more up-to-date

At the end of the year, the project „Development of Transport and Port Communication Systems” (Trans-Port), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, is winding up. Within the framework of the project, a number of activities aimed at the improvement of the Port of Ventspils communication systems were carried out, and as a result, a part of navigation buoys in the Port of Ventspils and adjacent waters are being equipped with an automatic identification system (AIS).

Cargo turnover in November increased for 23%

In November 2011 cargo turnover in Freeport of Ventspils was 23%  more than during November last year. After 11 months of 2011 Freeport of Ventspils handled 26 million tons of cargo, which is  14% more than over the same period last year. 

Cargo turnover at the Port of Ventspils has increased by 6%

In the first seven months of 2011 Ventspils Port handled 16.613 million tons of cargo, which is  6% more than over the same period last year. In July the cargo turnover of the port amounted to 2.132 million tons.  

January successful in general cargo field

In January Ventspils port was successfully used by three terminals –  “Kalija parks”,  “Baltic Coal Terminal” and  “Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals”.  
The largest increase of turnover at Ventspils port, comparing to January, 2010 is for “Kalija parks”. In January potassium transshipment volume increased by 154 thousand tons, compared to this period year ago, and 43 thousand tons of carbomide were reloaded. Turnover of “Baltic Coal Terminal” (deal with coal reloading) increased by 40 thousand tons.
Successful work is also in„Noord Natie Vetspils Terminals”, which mainly organises ferry traffic. The total cargo turnover at the terminal have increased by 49,07%. The number of ferry passengers at Ventspils port increased by 181,20% compared to January of last year, but auto by 162,68%, cargo unit by 112,69%.
Total turnover in January was 1,878 million tons, that is by 20,76% less than in January,2010. The largest decrease was in liquid cargo. In January total turnover of liquid cargo was by 30% less than a year ago. Decrease is mainly due to the bad turnover index of  “Ventspils Nafta Terminals” and  “Ventbunkers”. Better results was in general cargo area, where turnover increased by 32%.
