The Freeport of Ventspils in Hamburg discusses the significance of renewable energy resources

02/10/2024

At the end of September, representatives of the Freeport of Ventspils – Deputy CEO Igors Udodovs and Developer of the Green Energy Cluster Kaspars Liepiņš – participated in the international wind energy industry event WindEnergy in Hamburg. Representatives of the Freeport of Ventspils envisioned how the port could be altered into a green power and hydrogen technology center.

WindEnergy Hamburg has been the primary meeting spot of the wind energy industry since 2014. Throughout this time, the exhibition has not only been a model for the economic and technological expansion of the wind industry but has also always functioned as a critical platform for spotlighting the most recent trends, initiating new projects, making new connections, and generating orders. This year, the event took place in close collaboration with the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), the Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation of Schleswig-Holstein (WT.SH), and Tutech, a private-sector subsidiary of Hamburg University of Technology and the City of Hamburg.

The event offered a remarkable possibility for up to 20 wind energy industry participants to demonstrate their innovative ideas, enterprises, services, and projects, as well as to establish useful B2B contacts. The representatives of the Freeport of Ventspils highlighted Ventspils as an important place for offshore wind and renewable energy extraction, accentuating the port of Ventspils as an ice-free, deep-water port in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea with a wide transportation and logistics network, along with the benefits of an economic zone.

After sharing the official part of the presentations at the stand, the participants had the chance to continue networking, establishing valuable connections, and gaining possible alliance partners. The mutual purpose of the discussions is to share mutual experience regarding the function of companies and ports, producing energy from the sun and wind, and guaranteeing a steadfast, efficient, and profitable supply of energy from renewable sources.

The event was primarily funded by Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) – the world’s largest sponsorship instrument for small and medium-sized companies with international ambitions, helping to develop new business opportunities abroad and supporting companies in optimizing their transnational business. This European-scale system is a vast database with partnership offers from various countries and sectors, involving more than 450 associations in more than 40 countries, including Latvia.
