At the first Ventspils freeport’s Board meeting in 2026, Valdis Andersons was appointed Chairman of the Board. He joined the Board in December last year as a representative nominated by the Minister for Transport.

From July 2024 to December 2025, Andersons served as CEO of KS Terminal, SIA, while from April 2020 to July 2024 he was Chairman of the Board of EXTRON BALTIC, SIA. He has also held the position of Chairman of the Board in companies of Riga Port Group—Rīgas Centrālais Termināls, SIA and Riga Container Terminal, SIA—and has gained international experience in a port logistics company in Germany, working in the management of port and railway terminals from December 2010 to January 2016.

V. Andersons holds an MBA from Riga Business School of Riga Technical University, obtained in cooperation with the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of Ottawa, as well as a diploma in physics and electronics from the University of Latvia.

At the same meeting, Artūrs Zandersons, a member of the Board of the Freeport of Ventspils since February 2024 and nominated by the Minister of Economics, was elected Deputy Chairman of the Board.

The Board is the highest decision-making body of the Freeport of Ventspils and oversees the administration led by the CEO of the Freeport of Ventspils. In accordance with the Law on Ports, the Freeport of Ventspils has four board members — representatives nominated by the Ministers of Economics, Finance, Transport, and Smart Administration and Regional Development — who are appointed to and dismissed from office by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia.

The Freeport of Ventspils is the second-largest port in Latvia in terms of cargo volumes handled at its terminals and one of the largest industrial centers in the country.
