Gothenburg, 22th December 2016 – Swedish Orient Line announced today that it will open a new route between Ventpils (Latvia), Zeebrugge (Belgium) and Tilbury (UK). The new route expands SOL’s activities from its hub in Zeebrugge. Furthermore the service to Ventspils will also be connected via P&O to Teesport and Hull. This way, clients get the possibility to ship their goods from Ventpils to and from Hull and Teesport.
To strengthen its business position in Scandinavia, as well as to serve the rising demand, the company Stena Line ensures a ferry timetable that is more frequent and more adapted to client needs and it also provides a long-term growth-orientated solution with a new timetable.
Two new assembly lines were opened at Ventspils factory of the manufacturer of municipal vehicles Bucher Municipal. From now on new generation two- and four-cylinder street sweeping machines, which previously were manufactured at Butcher Municipal’s factories in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, will be manufactured in Ventspils.

Russian confectionary “Pobeda” officially announced the factory opening in Latvia, Ventspils. The ceremonial start of production took place on February 17, 2016. Pobeda is the first Russian confectionary starting production abroad. The Latvian branch factory – SIA Pobeda Confectionery – is a precedent for the Russian confectionery market. «Pobeda» - the only company in this segment, which has opened production in the EU.
Most extensive project regarding reconstruction and building of access roads of the Port of Ventspils is finished
Freeport of Ventspils Authority has finished the six years long project regarding reconstruction and building of access roads of the terminals of the Port of Ventspils and industrial zones. 48 sections of streets and squares of Ventspils at the total length of 28.7 kilometres and at the area of 14.6 hectares respectively have been re-built and restored. Nearly 36 million euro have been invested in the streets and squares of Ventspils within this project financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.
The Freeport of Ventspils Authority is inviting to apply for acceptance of hazardous waste from vessels (scrubbers) at the port of Ventspils
Types of acceptance of waste: sludge from scrubbers – small volumes by using IBC containers, larger volumes by using tank-trucks; water drained during purification of emissions - by using tank-trucks (similarly as sludge waters); washing acids – waste are to be transferred in IBC containers. Volume of waste per vessel depends on the type and size thereof. Approximate volume at a time:
Project Access Roads to Terminals and Industrial Areas at the Freeport of Ventspils , which implementation was started in 2010 and will be completed by the end of this year, allowed not only to improve the infrastructure of port and industrial areas, but also made convenient environment for the inhabitants of the city.

This week the largest and most comprehensive international transport, logistics and Supply Chain Management exhibition „Transrussia 2015” is taking place Moscow. Among more than 35 Latvian companies, Freeport of Ventspils is also be represented. For several years Latvia has been working to create and strengthen the connectivity of the Eurasian transportation network. Popularization of possibilities of Latvian transit corridor is meaningful for all participants in the industry in Latvia.
