Late in the evening of May 31, Friday, celebrating the completion of the access road renovation project of the Freeport of Ventspils, the event RUN WITH THE FERRY! took place for the first time along the remodeled streets, bike paths, and pier of the Freeport of Ventspils. Several men and one woman successfully coped with the challenge and covered the distance faster than the ferry STENA BALTICA.
The distance was 4 kilometers long – it started at the Ventspils ferry passenger terminal at the same time as the ferry departed at 11 p.m. and continued via the newly renovated Ostas Street to the Southern Pier. To win the competition, the light sign of the Southern Pier had to be reached faster than the Stena Line ferry STENA BALTICA.
125 participants registered for the run, and the six fastest in the girls’ and boys’ groups received prizes from Stena Line and the Freeport of Ventspils Authority. The main prize for the first-place winners is a trip with STENA LINE for two people. In honor of this event, a summer welcome party was held for the first time on the Southern Pier.
The event “Run with the Ferry!” was organized by the Freeport of Ventspils Authority in cooperation with STENA LINE LATVIJA and Ventspils Marathon Club.
Ventspils is one of the largest ports on the Baltic Sea’s east coast, and currently, Ventspils-Nynäshamn is the shortest route between Latvia and Scandinavia. The ferry traffic in the port of Ventspils has been provided by the operator “Stena Line” since 2012, and the cooperation was invigorated in 2023 when “Stena Line” acquired the rights to provide terminal services.
