Conference Port 4.0 highlights digitalization of ports

Digital twin ports, sea and land traffic management systems and smart port solutions – these topics were covered during the Ports 4.0 conference, held in Riga, Latvia. The industry community gathered in Freeport of Riga, Latvia, on June 20th to share views, ideas, case studies and experiences related to the digitalization of ports.

Kaspars Liepins, renewable energy cluster developer of the Freeport of Ventspils Administration, together with Arturs Zandersons from Freeport of Riga held the panel discussion, spoking from the perspective of the ports about the cooperation between rail, road and maritime traffic operators. Among the challenges they mentioned the role of cooperation between management boards, paperwork and security issues, including cyber security. They also highlighted the role of data flow and sharing between units, cargo tracking and competitiveness issues. 

For the Freeport of Ventspils digitalization is not only an important trend, but significant necessary, which has been highly prioritized. Hopefully in a foreseeable future we will experience significant changes in the direction of digitization, which will contribute to the efficiency and security of port operations. Therefore, such change of experience as between maritime professionals in Ports 4.0 conference is of great interest for Ventspils.

The entire conference featured common points related to a broader view and a multidisciplinary approach to digitalization. The speakers pointed out the involvement of the entire team at every level of digitalization and extensive discussions with internal and external partners.
