By representing one of the most active commercial ports in Europe, the Freeport of Ventspils Authority in collaboration with the Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP) has engaged in the Baltic Loop project.

The goal of the project is to identify and prevent bottlenecks of passenger and freight transport in the East-West corridor of the Baltic sea and to deal with issues related to inter-linking of different transport hubs by reducing travel time and decreasing carbon dioxide emission levels.

The role of the VHTP and the Freeport of Ventspils Authority in the scope of the Baltic Loop project is to help with developing solutions for preventing the bottlenecks obstructing the development of transport corridors to increase the efficiency of services provided by the Freeport of Ventspils in the long-term by using the latest ICT solutions, as well as to promote the growth of demand for the transport corridor of Sweden-Latvia (through Ventspils)-Belarus, thus making the corridor more attractive for involving new enterprises and developing innovations.
