On September 3, 2014, a time capsule with a message for future generations has been walled up in the foundation of the to-be Ventspils Centre for Electronics. The Centre for Electronics is one of the two new industrial buildings being constructed in the Freeport of Ventspils with the financial support of the European Union, so as to provide modern industrial premises to high added value enterprises by 2015.

In December, 2013 2,5 million tons of cargo were handled in Freeport of Ventspils. It turned total cargo turnover to 28.8 million tons, that is more than Freeport Authority has planned before.

A division of Financial Times FDI Intelligence has come out with second global ranking of free economic zones 2012./2013. Freeport of Ventspils has got the 7th place in the top of global free zones of the future and ranked as 2nd best port zone.
