Stena Line signs long-term contract in Ventspils

Stena Line and Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals (NNVT) have signed a 20 year contract securing the continuous ferry operation from the Freeport of Ventspils in Latvia. This long-term agreement is an important part of Stena Lines expansion in the Baltic Sea and the route between Ventspils and Nynäshamn in Sweden. During 2021 two large modern RoPax vessels will start operating on the route increasing the freight capacity with 30 %.

The volume of cargoes of wood products in the port of Ventspils is increasing.

In 2020, the amount of transhipped various wood products in the terminals of the port of Ventspils has increased by 7%, reaching the best score of the past 10 years. The main handler of this group of cargoes in the port of Ventspils is "Ventplac" Ltd., a company which managed to maintain stable turnover of cargo comparing to year 2019.

Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals, which operates at the Freeport of Ventspils, is one of the port terminals that succeeded in maintaining a stable cargo turnover in 2020 compared to previous years. Andris Purmalis, Manager of the Freeport of Ventspils, expressed his gratitude to the Executive Director of Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals, Jānis Pauls, for his successful work and for the outstanding cooperation between the Freeport Authority and the Terminals during 2020.

Stena Line expands in the Baltic Sea

Ferry company Stena Line has today announced an expansion and strengthening of their operations across the Baltic Sea region. Next year the current vessels on the Nynäshamn-Ventspils route will be replaced with two modern and lengthened RoPax ferries Stena Lagan and Stena Mersey, which will add further 30 per cent freight capacity. The new ferries will also offer an attractive alternative way to travel on the Baltic Sea.

FDI Intelligence, part of the Financial Times Group, has published the “Free Economic Zones 2020” study. The Freeport of Ventspils is included in the top ten most promising free economic zone in the world, received the second best rating in the European region, named the best business development place for large tenants in Europe, received recognition for specialization in IT, as well as a special award for smart development strategies.

Freeport of Ventspils authority continues construction works of the industrial territory

Construction of three new production buildings continues in the industrial territory of the Freeport of Ventspils. New factories will be able to start work in them already in autumn of this year. Lease agreements have already been concluded on usage of two of the buildings but it is still possible to apply for lease of the third production unit with the area of 6300 square metres. 

Ventspils Freeport Authority and companies at Ventspils Freeport may continue work unhindered

In the evening of 18 December 2019, US Office of Foreign Asset Control has announced cancellation of sanctions against Ventspils Freeport and Ventspils Freeport Authority.  Thus, currently there are no obstacles for Ventspils Freeport Authority, Ventpils Freeport and companies operating at the port to continue their work unhindered.

Polycarbonate films to be produced in Ventspils

On 22 November 2019 in Ventspils at the newest construction site within the industrial area of the airport at Ganību Street 103, a time capsule was walled into the foundation of the future production building during a festive ceremony. A contract has been entered into on the lease of the building with the company Ultraplast EU, which will be able to start work in only one year in Ventspils.
